Day 41 – Twin Lakes to Hancock (Total Miles =644.5)

Day 41 was nothing but business.  It was 63 degrees.  I suppose most would say that is great riding weather!  I would say it is great running weather, but not bicycle riding weather.  When you have the cold, a headwind, and the dampness, 63 degrees might as well be 20 degrees.

We arrived at our hotel, and guess what?  The heat didn’t work in the room.  We have to laugh now.  They must have thought we were crazy for wanting heat in August!  But, Ken and I both were freezing and wet.  My eyes were swollen from no sleep.  They must have thought, what kind of riffraff do we have now?!

We wanted to stay here forever!  The shower was hot!  Their soap and shampoo smelled good!  The bed was warm!  A great Mexican restaurant was nearby!  We were comfy.  But, we have been making our way so slowly, that we knew the hotel would just be a one nighter.  In the morning, the sun was back out, so we gathered our dirty, wet clothes into one big laundry bag, packed up the bikes, and left our cozy hotel.  The plan was to stop at the laundromat on the way out of town.  While doing the wash, we were able to lay out the tent, tarp, and sleeping pads to let the sun bake them dry.  Then, the best vegi pasty ever!! at Amy J’s Pasty shop, before we rode off to McLain State Park.
